1. Relationships Between Quantities and Reasoning with Equations and Their Graphs

Number sense & foundations

Children develop an understanding of numbers, quantities, and place value. This includes learning to count in early grades and moving on to larger numbers and estimation later.

Addition, subtraction, multiplication & division

Students first start with addition and subtraction in early grades (K-1 and K-2). They then build on that, and by later elementary grades, they’ll be able to apply all four operations to larger numbers and in word problems. Our approach is to practice until students can use the four operations accurately and comfortably.

Fractions & decimals

Lessons connect fractions and decimals to real-life situations like money, measurement, cooking, and going to the gas station. This makes it easier to grasp and memorize the essence of those concepts.

4. Polynomial and Quadratic Expressions, Equations, and Functions

Pre-algebra pathway

Pre-algebra covers ratios, variables, expressions, and equations, as well as how to represent unknown values with symbols. In other words, it’s a stepping stone for abstract math and higher-level topics.

5. A Synthesis of Modeling with Equations and Functions

Geometry & measurement

Students explore geometry throughout our online math classes. Early grades begin with shapes and simple measurements, such as length. Then, from middle school onward, geometry and measurements get more advanced, including area, volume, and graphs. They develop key visual reasoning skills, a key part of our geometry curriculum.
